Due to unexpected repairs to the UFA data system and Optical Site, there continues to be residual problems with the system, which had to be replaced with custom scripted software for theUFA. Some optical venders have had difficulties verifying member info. If you visited an optician for an eye exam and new glasses or contact lenses, unfortunately the opticians may have been unable to verify your membership or output member optical vouchers. If you have difficulty with this, call theUFAswitchboard at 212-683-4832 and ask for Amy. She will output an approval voucher and fax it to the store for you. Available hours to do this are M-F,8:30am - 4:30pm.
This is a temporary solution, while customizations are made to the system in order to resolve these development issues. We apologize to those members whose families are inconvenienced while we work to correct the problem, and make improvements to our member services. We will keep you informed regarding any updates on this issue.
New: You can now look up opticians near you that accept UFA coverage on the UFA website. Go to the new UFAsite address at www.UFANYC.org and click on ‘Security Benefit Fund’ on left, then click on ‘UFA Members Only’.
