The City announced on Friday (yesterday) that it is weighing a plan to close as many as 37 firehouses at night to help save money. The response from UFA President Steve Cassidy was immediate. A joint press conference with the UFOA was held the same morning at UFA Headquarters denouncing the closings as extremely dangerous for the public, as well as firefighters. Steve made clear to the press that the overwhelming majority of fire fatalities occur at night, and while any closings will have a real impact on public safety, closing firehouses at night is clearly a recipe for death and destruction. The UFA response was carried on all the major TV news last night and in todays editions of the Times, Daily News, Newsday and The Post. Please call the UFA hotline for further details at 212-545-6972. Back To Top Fraternally, Joseph A. Miccio Recording Secretary, Stephen J. Cassidy President
