The UFA is in the process of launching an aggressive campaign to have the unfair “1127 Tax” repealed. As the budget negotiations continue in Albany, there has been talk of reinstating a new “commuter tax.” The UFA has joined forces along with all unions affected by the “1127” to ensure that all of our members are treated like every other commuter. Our position is that we are willing to pay whatever commuter tax is reinstated as long as “1127” is repealed. We have made it know in Albany that we will lobby against any new tax that does not include repeal of “1127.” Over the next week all members living outside NYC will be receiving a package of 4 postcards. Members should address them to their respective State Senator and Assembly Member. In addition their spouses should also send them to the same, since their income is also unjustly taxed in the same manner. Members should send them out ASAP since the budget could be negotiated within a matter of weeks. In order to expedite the process, we are asking that all suburban members begin the process of finding out who their respective state representatives are. Company delegates will be needed to assist in this process. ALL DELEGATES should contact the members of their company that live outside NYC. Members should be instructed about the postcards and how to look up their representatives. The easiest way to find your representative is by looking it up on the internet. The website is http://www.vote-smart.org/ or by clicking HERE. Enter your Zip Code into the field on the right side of the page and it will bring up a listing of all of your elected officials. Instructions show how to find your Zip Code. Enter your State Senator on one postcard and your State Assembly Member on the other. If you are married have your spouse do the same. If not, have someone else in your house fill it out. The only chance we have at repealing “1127” is by making sure the legislators know how our members feel. We need 100% compliance in order to be effective. Additionally members of the UFOA will also be receiving the package of postcards in the mail and will be doing the same. Ensure that your officers also follow these instructions. Company delegates are critical in ensuring that the affected members comply. If the delegate is unavailable, an alternate should be assigned this task. Back To Top
