UFA Scholarship Fund 2008 Application and Eligibility/Submission Guidelines
*Information (eligibility, contacts, & award amount) related to the scholarships listed below is subject to change. Any
questions should be directed to the organization offering the scholarship. Please e-mail us at recordingsecretary@ufanyc.org with any scholarship & college information that
may benefit our membership.
Applicants must currently be enrolled in college, trade or vocational school. This scholarship is for dependent children of
active, retired or deceased Firefighters, Fire Marshals or Marine Wipers who are full-time students up to & including age 23 for
undergraduate education. Dependent children, spouses of LOD deceased UFA members, & dependent children of non-LOD deceased UFA
members are eligible to receive scholarships for undergraduate and/or post-graduate education, but must still fill out an
application & provide proof of enrollment. Applications are available when UFA announces annual filing periods which usually
begin at the end of each summer. Announcements are made in 65-2's and here at the UFA website, www.ufanyc.org.
- FDNY Columbia Association
Columbia Association awards High School & College students. Candidates may compete if a parent (natural, step or foster) is
a member in good standing of the Columbia Association. Children of deceased members, who were in good standing at
time of death, may also compete. Applications may be obtained online at www.fdnycolumbia.com.
Available for family member of a member in good standing of the Vikings in a tuition paying H.S., college,
technical school. Applications may be obtained online: www.fdnyvikings.org.
- FDNY St. George Association Annual Scholarship Exam
Open to the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of FDNY St. George Association members in good

- FDNY Holy Name Society H.S. Scholarship
Available for Manhattan, Bronx, and Staten Island. The Holy Name Society always holds their H.S. Scholarship Test the first
Saturday in December. Available to 8th graders, who are sons and daughters, brothers, sisters & grandchildren of Holy Name
Society members in good standing (including deceased members). For application: Dispatcher William P. Treanor, 98

- FDNY Emerald Society Annual Scholarship Exam
Open to sons and daughters, brothers and sisters of Emerald Society members in good standing. Always takes

- NY Firefighters Burn Center Foundation Educational Grant Awards
In memory of FF Michael Kiefer grant awards are being offered to active members of FDNY Uniformed Force. Submit info to: The New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation c/o Engine Co. 66 & Ladder Co. 61, 21 Asch Loop, Bronx, NY 10475. - Fire Bell Club Scholarship Award Application
Applications are available for active FF's 5th Grade and above & Officers who have been accepted or are attending an accredited institution of higher learning. FFs/Officers who are pursuing a degree in Fire Service Administration, Public Service Management, Nursing or a related Fire Service discipline and who have completed a minimum of (12) credits are eligible. Preference will be given to members who have fewer than five years of service. Applications can be obtained from Ms. Jacqueline Merveil, FDNY Registrar, at (718) 281-8465.
In memory of the deceased Firefighters, Volunteer Firefighters, Police Officers,Peace Officers, and Emergency Medical Service
Workers. Award covers tuition, room & board, and allowances for books, supplies, and transportation at CUNY or SUNY for up to 4
yrs. of full-time undergraduate study. Available for the children, spouses, and financial dependents of deceased firefighters,
volunteer firefighters, police officers, peace officers, and emergency medical service workers who died in the line of duty in

- FF Michael C. Reilly Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc.
For children or siblings of active duty, retired, or deceased members of FDNY. Applicants must be a H.S. senior or attending

- FF Terry Farrell Scholarship
The Scholarship is open to the children of all active, retired, disabled and deceased FDNY Members or Volunteer Department
Members residing in the 4 Counties of Long Island. (Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, and Brooklyn) For applications, go to

- FF Thomas J. Foley Memorial Scholarship
College Scholarships offered for students enrolling in an accredited two or four year college or university within the
continental United States. Applicants must be the dependent child of an active or retired FF or Officer, whose parent or legal

- NYS Honorary Fire Chiefs & NYSPFF Memorial Scholarship
In memory of FF Ted Green, the NYS Honorary Fire Chiefs & NYS Professional Firefighter's Memorial College Scholarships are available. The scholarship is open to H.S. seniors & recent high school graduates who will not have completed more than one year of college. Applicants must be a child of an active uniformed union member of the NYS Professional Firefighter's Association. Applicants must have taken the SAT or ACT. - FF Thomas Brick Memorial College Scholarships
In memory of FF Thomas Brick, scholarships are available to all active FDNY Firefighters & Officers. To apply, complete & return an application to Chief of Department, Salvatore Cassano. - Lt. John M. Clancy/FF Jimmy O'Shea Memorial Scholarship

- NYS World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship
Available for the children, spouses, and financial dependents of victims who died or were severely and permanently disabled
as a result of September 11, 2001 and the resulting rescue and recovery efforts. Award covers tuition, room & board, and allowances for books, supplies, and transportation at CUNY or SUNY for up to 4 yrs. of full-time undergraduate study. For an

- 11 September Memorial Scholarship
For children, spouses, or domestic partners of members who died or were permanently disabled, or victims permanently

- Checkpoint Charlie Foundation City of Berlin Scholarship

- Families of Freedom Scholarships
Available to children and spouses of members who died or were seriously injured on September 11, 2001. For applications: www.scholarships911.org.
- FF Michael Lynch Memorial Foundation Scholarship

- Needham September 11th Scholarship Fund

- Charles H. Revson Fellows Program
Ten individuals of diverse backgrounds and fields of achievement are selected to pursue a nine-month program of their own
design at Columbia University. For an application and more information, contact Ms. Jacqueline Merveil, FDNY Registrar in the
Office of Fire & Life Safety, at 718-281-8465, or access the application on-line at www.columbia.edu/cu/revson. The completed typed application with supporting

- E. Virgil Conway College Scholar Awards
Open to sons and daughters of New York City career civil service employees with at least two years of continuous city service. The maximum gross family income permitted is $100,000. Nomination forms and applications are available online at www.nyc.gov/dcas, or you may contact the Bureau of Personnel Resources at 718-999-5149. - The 1st Infantry Division Foundation - DePuy Scholarships
Available for children of soldiers killed while serving in combat with the Division and in peacetime training accidents. For

- John Jay College Tuition Reimbursement Procedures
The FDNY has received funding that provides reimbursement payment for FDNY Firefighters and EMS uniformed personnel enrolled in undergraduate and graduate courses at John Jay College. Applicants must have completed course(s) with a C or better and provide a transcript denoting such grade(s) along with receipt of payment. In order to receive reimbursement, students shall provide the previously mentioned documents to Mary-Elizabeth Rohan, FDNY Director of College Admissions, 718-281-8464; rohanm@fdny.nyc.gov.
- IRC 529 Savings Plan (IRS Code)
It's an education savings plan named after Section 529 of the Internal Revenue Code. The 529 Savings Plan was designed to help families set aside funds for future college costs.
